The Right Body Care Routine for YOUR Skin Type

The Right Body Care Routine for YOUR Skin Type

You’ve seen the trends online about how to optimize your body care routine, but notice how they never tell you that your routine should be based on your skin type? Not all products work for all skin. You could be unintentionally making your skin insecurities worse by using a body care routine you’ve been told will make your skin better. Your skin type is unique, and your body care routine should be too. Here’s the routine breakdown for all four skin types– including the one almost nobody talks about.

🤎Dry Skin:

Start with a warm shower. Make sure it’s not too hot– that will dehydrate your skin.

Use a sulfate-free body wash. Look for humectants like hyaluronic acid and avoid exfoliating acids in this step. You only want to exfoliate once or twice a week with a gentle scrub or exfoliating net. After your shower is the best time to lock in moisture. Your skin needs to be damp, so complete this step no more than three minutes after patting yourself dry. Apply body butter and top off with body oil for maximum hydration. Reapply body oil throughout the day as needed to prevent your skin from drying out. Your main goal right now is getting rich oils into your skin.

🤎Dehydrated but Oily Skin:

This is the one people usually don’t address.

Much like the dry skin routine, you also want to use a sulfate-free body wash in a warm shower. This will protect your natural moisture, which cues your body to not overproduce oil. Over exfoliating dehydrated skin can make it dryer. Gently exfoliate once a week to remove any dead skin cells. Consider using an exfoliating net instead of a body scrub to keep your pores clearer. To tackle dehydrated skin, you need to use products with humectants. These are ingredients that pull water from the air and deep layers of your skin to the surface. Humectants can be found in body oils. You can mix some into your body butter and gently put it into damp skin to moisturize without feeling too oily. Damp skin allows for better absorption. The key here is to use gentle products to maintain your skin’s natural moisture without leaving you feeling greasy. You want to use lightweight products rather than heavy creams.

🤎Combination Skin:

This is when you have dry and oily skin. It is different from having dehydrated and oily skin. Read about the difference on our blog. Dry skin craves rich oils. This then tells your body that it has enough oil and prevents over production. You’ll want to avoid overly moisturizing, oily body washes. Those will make your skin too oily. You want to get your moisture from body butter and body oil. Yes, body oil works for oily skin. Sometimes your skin is oily because it’s dry– moisturizing properly will remedy this. Consider using rose oil. We have one specially formulated for oily skin. Add a drop into your body butter to cover your dry and oily spots. Your focus is honoring both aspects of your skin type.

🤎Sensitive Skin:

Keep your routine simple. A warm shower with a gentle body wash is your first step. Exfoliate sparingly– only once a week, or even every other week. This is the gentleness your skin craves. Keep your skin hydrated with body butter. Using unscented products lessens the likelihood of irritating your skin. Check out our Bare body body– it has everything your skin loves, just without the added fragrance. You can add in some scent with a little bit of body oil, or even some rose oil for a natural scent. Simplicity is bliss and bare is better for this skin type.

Be confident in what your skin needs. Knowing your skin type is the first step in the right direction. Discovering which products work best for you is the second. With the right toolkit, you’ll be well on your way to creating your perfect body care routine. Your skin deserves it.
